A good audiovisual work is the result of developing one's own language, of building an original narrative, and this is what Javier Estupiñán wanted to do. Originally from Gran Canaria, this young artist and audiovisual creative sought in Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs a way with which to take the first steps in the definition of his own production company. In search of his own language, between the eccentric and the great productions, Javier found in EYE Canarias how to give life to his ideas and learn more about his business project.
With extensive experience in creative environments, Javier needed to explore other areas that become crucial when we talk about a business of his own. Production, planning, organization or budget management were matters in which Javier wanted to enter through his exchange. This search led him to Noël Loozen, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This Dutch creative then had more than 11 years of experience in the sector, in addition to an extensive portfolio that went hand in hand with Javier's search for his own language.
In spite of everything
Javier's exchange began to gestate in 2020. However, the circumstances caused by the COVID-19 health crisis made it difficult to get started. Several months passed and, finally, in October of the same year, he managed to reach the city of the canals. Amsterdam was deployed with its extensive catalog of creative offers to feed the curiosity of Javier, who, as soon as he arrived, began to work tirelessly with Noël.
The projects and ideas that had been conceived while the beginning of the stay was postponed began to take shape. In fact, one of the first jobs they both collaborated on was an episode for a national television show. Noël’s style and language matched Javier’s concerns very well, leading to an audiovisual production in the form of an interview ‘in a creative format’.
"I found a lot of help and guidance from Noël, and my responsibilities grew over time", Javier adds when he mentally goes through the 6 months that his stay lasted. However, from Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs in the Canary Islands we also provide assistance with which you were able to set your goals and identify weaknesses and strengths that allowed you to make the most of the exchange.
Despite Covid-19, the stay was “very profitable”, says Javier. Although not all projects could be executed, many others, such as a long-term film and documentary, received Javier's assistance during their exchange. Once concluded, the professional relationship between Noël and Javier was very good, so much so that the door was left open to maintain new contacts and advice in the future work of the study. Precisely, for Noël, EYE is an experience of great interest for any company interested in incorporating new perspectives into its business: “I highly recommend the programme. These collaborations always give you a fresh and unexpected insight that can help your company grow. A new way of looking at things!".
