Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE), the European reference programme in international exchanges of entrepreneurs, celebrates 15 years connecting the entrepreneurial fabric of Europe and the world. The Technological Institute of the Canary Islands has been working since 2009 as an intermediary office for this initiative of the European Commission, positioning itself as the most active contact point of the 113 that make up the Network, with a total of 52 stays processed in 2023.

The Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) programme offers new and potential entrepreneurs a unique opportunity for international exchanges aimed at turning their innovative ideas into reality. EYE helps to overcome the initial obstacles when undertaking and, in parallel, facilitates the internationalization of SMEs receiving new entrepreneurs who perform mobility in one of the 30 countries that make up the project.

Participants receive valuable practical training and develop their entrepreneurial skills by collaborating with a host person with business experience, during a stay that can be from 1 to 6 months. The European Union also offers financial support to help cover travel and living expenses, ensuring accessibility and opportunities to engage all people with an already well-founded initiative. This was the case, for example, of Vanessa Mata, a Canarian entrepreneur who travelled to Venice to work with her ‘host’ on a more sustainable tourism model than bringing the Islands back.

For their part, host entrepreneurs benefit from new perspectives and skills through exchanges. This collaboration opens doors to explore innovative ideas that can grow your business, facilitating internationalization, access to new markets and forming new partnerships, further enhancing your competitive advantage. So it was for Javier González, who made his stay in 2019 to later form his company, Tivity, with which he is receiving new entrepreneurs as ‘host’ today, attesting to the important value of these symbiotic relationships that open the closure for international cooperation, competitive improvement and the promotion of innovation.

To date, the program has generated nearly 12,000 network-wide exchanges in more than 45 countries. 2023 marked an all-time record with more than 5,000 applications, demonstrating the program's resounding success. In fact, EYE has a solid approval rating, at 98.% of new entrepreneurs recommending it and 92% of participants maintaining contact after their exchange. This was demonstrated by the stay of Andrea Armas, whose collaboration extended over time once the exchange concluded.

The European Commission remains committed to improving the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme, ensuring that it continues to support emerging entrepreneurship and contribute to building a resilient and innovative European business ecosystem. From the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands we invite new entrepreneurs and experienced people with businesses to join this initiative and grow their projects.
