When human beings began to make the first pictorial representations in caves, the immense capacity of images to communicate and move, to educate and represent, in short, to tell stories was known. The case of Andrea Armas is one of those representations that has deep roots that reach his youth and convince of the possibilities involved in the desire to achieve something. More than 10 years ago he started taking photos and editing them. Without professional technical knowledge, but with the determination and curiosity that characterize her, she continued to portray her friends and family, her home and her routine for many years. Thus he sowed a concern that would lead him to Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs.
Andrea's family always encouraged her in achieving her academic goals. But once his studies were over, he had no room to make photography a sustainable way of life. In this way, he began to work in the sales sector. Between free time and moments of leisure, he continued to cultivate his photographic style until he gained some renown in the Islands for developing a little-known format, fantastic photography. However, the years passed and the desire to embark on his own path increased, so that Andrea did not take long to make the decision to devote herself completely to photography.
Answering the big question
Andrea's decision was accompanied by a very sensible question. How can I start my business if I don't have enough knowledge? That's when he met the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs program. “I had no doubt that I should try”, Andrea said, recalling the months before formalising her application, while at the same time working on the preparation of her business plan which, some time later, would take the name of Andrea Artmas.
From EYE Canarias we guided Andrea in the selection of a destination in which she could shape exciting projects, just as she breathed life into the fantastic creatures she portrayed in her photographs. That's how she came to Ireland, where she was welcomed by Paul Collins, marketing director of noise, a digital creativity agency where Andrea worked for 5 months as a photographer.
“I've noticed that I'm stronger than I thought”
Escaping his comfort zone, Andrea discovered his worth as he faced new challenges. A new language, a city abroad, novel photography styles and other ways of working were some of the challenges Andrea successfully overcame. "I felt fortunate to have people around me who patiently taught me and made me feel part of the team," she said.
With all this, he managed to settle his ideas, enriching his business plan. However, this was not all, as his host He extended his professional relationship with Andrea, who continues to work with noise to date. Every day allows him to draw more clearly the shape of his future study of his photography. Although the experience is not only there, since the exchange has facilitated significant personal growth for Andrea, helping her to feel more confident and prepared: “I have noticed that I am stronger than I thought. I am now ready to take the next step and launch my own photography studio.”
